Philanthropy and Service

With the creation of its program KDR Kids, the national board encouraged chapters to “…pick local charities that directly impacted children in the community,” placing special emphasis on “…literacy, improving the health of children, and providing a safe and healthy environment for our children to grow into successful leaders of our society.” Bearing that charge in mind, the men of Kappa Delta Rho Epsilon have maintained a strong partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Franklin. Since the founding of its first branch in 1906, the Boys and Girls Club has sought to provide children with a safe, positive environment that fosters good character, study habits, and health.

Miss Blue and Gold

Each spring, the Epsilon brothers organize an on-campus beauty pageant to raise funds for the Club. This event, traditionally called Miss Blue and Gold, garnered over $750 in the spring of 2013, with equal earnings in 2014. The men of Kappa Delta Rho Epsilon maintain a committed relationship with the Boys and Girls Club and, in addition to Miss Blue and Gold, support the nonprofit through volunteer hours and lock-ins with the children.

Curly's Quest

Recently, Kappa Delta Rho Epsilon adopted a second charity, The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. The organization’s namesake, a 14 year-old boy from Delaware, passed away on July 14, 2007, after a 167-day battle with leukemia. Created in Andrew’s honor, the B+ foundation channels donations and fundraising money to cancer research and families struggling to pay for their child’s treatment. In the fall of 2014, Kappa Delta Rho Epsilon conducted its inaugural fundraiser for the B+ Foundation, a minute-to-win-it tournament called Curly’s Quest. We are very excited to repeat this event and hope to make it a success once more

Dr. Seuss Day

Every year, the men of KDR partner with the women of Pi Beta Phi to help with their philanthropy event, Dr. Seuss Day, which is held at the Barnes and Noble in Greenwood. Pi Beta Phi's literacy philanthropy, Read > Lead > Achieve. This philanthropy aligns perfectly with our goals with KDR Kids as the goal is to inspire a lifelong love of reading that can unlock a child's ultimate potential. The men of KDR always have a good time partnering with other organizations for great causes.
